Group Info

La Mode Historique is a club dedicated entirely to western historical fashions through the ages, from ancient times up through the 1950s. Our goal is mainly to have fun, but it's also about bringing together those who appreciate fashion history and are interested in learning more about it. We hope to provide members with a place to come together to share art, knowledge, and have discussions relating to fashion history.

Deviants

[EDIT: Thank you everyone for all the help! My project is done! I'm not sure specifically what my grade was, but I got an A in the class, so it must have been good. You can see the designs here, if you're interested. Thanks again!]

Hello everyone!

I am currently taking a costuming class at my university, and for our final project we have been given a play and a time period and are designing costumes. I'm in the process of researching right now, and having some difficulty finding a few things. I was wondering if anyone here could maybe help me out a little?

The time period I have been assigned is 1880, and I need to find references for:

-a police officer
-lady's-maids
-gentleman's clothing and accessories

Thank you!

*late* ^^;

If you do a search on youtube, you might be able to find some tutorials for Victorian-inspired hairdos. ATM, the only tutorials I can think of are these:

A late 18th century/1780s pouf tutorial: [link]
A 1770s pouf tutorial: [link]
And this page of links for 19th century hairstyles: [link]

And, after all, what is a fashion? From the artistic point of view, it is usually a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.

I'm assuming you're referring to Gibson Girl hairstyles. A quick search yielded a promising link:

It's okay, everything goes straight into the featured gallery.
